Thanks for the complement. My son wrote that article and I'm trying to get him to write more. He'll be starting high school next year and the practice could be a good thing.

Great information about the barking. Something that dog owners much remember is that dogs just cannot talk, so their way to communicate to you (their owner) is to bark.

If you have a problem with your dog barking (usually if it is excessive barking) than try figure out why they are barking before reacting to it. Sometimes if it is a bark for attention a simple walk in the afternoon could remove this problem which is a much better alternative than taking them to a shelter.

The interesting thing is that there are many different kinds of barks that a dog makes. Some are high pitched, some are deeper and some fall in between both. I think that a dog uses all of these to try to communicate the best that they can and it is interesting to listen and try to figure out what they are trying to say.

The reason dogs bark is because we as humans want them to bark. For years our process of domestication and selective breeding has allowed and encouraged our dogs to develop their barking abilities. Wolves don't bark, so through genetic engineering and the selective breeding process, dogs now have the ability to retain these juvenile characteristics. This is through a process known as neoteny.

Well, as some of you who know me and know of me my life was not very good..then I was rescued by a human related to Shadow and Abby's human. I get so afraid and so tense and anxious that I hide and bark until I get to know you. I also bark at all the happy times too. I love to play with my toys and I love to sit in the recliner with my Alpha Human and watch TV amd I love to ride in my truck in the seat he made for me. He thinks it is his truck, but I know it is really mine and I guard it well.

Dogs bark for a variety of reasons. They may bark to attract attention, to communicate a message, or to express excitement. However what you said is very true, sometimes we are responsible for our dog to bark and hence we should keep our calm and not get mad. Thanks for such a nice article.
