Suitable Kennel Flooring Equals a Happy Dog

Most dogs, outside dogs in particular, do not need to be spoiled and pampered.  In fact, dogs are quite resilient animals and they can adapt easily to different circumstances, such as when you take the dog with you on a holiday or to see family. (Although this particularly applies to older dogs; puppies need a bit more stability in order to feel secure and be trained properly).  However, as a loving, caring owner of your dog, you will want to make sure that your dog is comfortable enough and has all that it needs.

That’s why it is good to pay attention to kennel flooring.  Your dog will spend a great deal of time in its kennel – he or she will sleep there at night and rest there during the day.  You may even leave your dog in its kennel when you go to work or go out to the shop or for a walk.  It is not enough to build a kennel and leave it at that; if dogs sleep too much on the dirt or even on the grass they get cold and chilled and colds for dogs, unlike colds in humans, can lead to serious complications and even be fatal for them.

So all that to say, you will want to make sure you get proper flooring for your dog kennel.  Some people like to put cement flooring – it is permanent and lasting and the dog cannot pull it up and chew it.  However, even a cement floor is not very comfortable for the dog; also, it absorbs moisture and odours and will soon start to stink.  So therefore just having cement will not really suffice.  You can put throw rugs of some sort on it but I seriously do not recommend it – they are the perfect breeding grounds for fleas and lice and are very unhygienic.

I would recommend some sort of portable kennel flooring for a dog kennel.  It is comfortable and relatively cheap and another advantage is, if you need or want to move the kennel to another area of the yard, or if you are moving house, or taking your dog with you on holiday travels, portable kennel flooring is very easy to remove and then set down again.  Portable dog kennel flooring comes in different kinds of material, all fairly affordable and putting it down is a do it yourself job.  Just a caution, however – if you choose to get rubber tiles kennel flooring you will want to make sure to lay it in such a way that your dog can not get hold of a corner of it and chew it as that will ruin the rubber tiles.

While this may sound like a little extra work, rest assured that it will benefit your dog immensely, and save your having a sick or unhappy dog.
