As we humans do, dogs also need to scratch occasionally. But if your pet dog is scratching continuously then there might be some reason attached to it. Every now and then treating this kind of problem is easy by altering dog food or shampooing. However, it is important to pinpoint the cause and ensure that there is nothing to worry as far as dog’s health is concerned. Well, the two basic itching causes in dogs are fleas or food allergies.
The first cause i.e., the flea allergy dermatitis or you can call (FAD) in short, causes loss of hair at the base of the tail and also around the backs of the dog’s hind legs. In addition, red bumps are seen in bald patches. If these symptoms are seen, then your dog might be allergic to fleas. The flea allergy dermatitis is caused by the allergic reaction of flea saliva and this can be caused due to even a single bite of the flea. In order to treat the problem, all fleas must be removed first. There are several good products available in the market, such as Capstar, that can easily kill fleas and help sooth your pooch’s itchy skin. You can then use a good flea bomb as part of the fleas treatment in your home.
The second main cause of itching is due to a dog food allergy. More often than not, food allergies step early in a pup’s life. However, the symptoms can also been seen in adult dogs. Well, the most important question is how would you know that the itching is due to food allergy dermatitis? First of all, you need to ask yourself these question: is your dog is suffering from an stomach upset, diarrhea, hot spots or an excessive itching? If any question’s answer is yes them there is more chance of food intolerance. On the other hand, if the dog is scratching continuously then there is a greater chance of food allergy. Change the eating habit and see the difference.
You will never want your dog to suffer from any kind of skin infection. In order to cut down the risk of food allergies, look for free dog treat recipes and find some simple methods to avoid fleas. Practicing these things will ensure your pet’s good health and hygiene, always.

My 2 years old shih tzu have some acne I think under her chin. My vet apply some ointments but still not working. Does your dog experience the same problem? Please help.
Thankfully, my dog has never had that issue. Perhaps it is time for another trip to your vet. : )
Very good review. My pet dog is suffering from scratches. I will consult with a veterinary doctor. I think this might be due to food habits.
I never thought that food allergy might be one of the reasons why my dog is itching. I used several flea control products and it useless. Thank you! I will consult with my vet to check if my dog is allergy with his food.
