I have a short-haired pointer and for about 2 months he would scratch every and whine because it hurt. My Husband and I could not figure out what was wrong-we knew it had to be related to allergies though.

I changed their shampoo to something more mild. We also changed the dog food and totally scrubbed the house-still nothing worked. I noticed one day that it was worse when gunner (my dog) was on his doggie bed. Go figure! This was one that I made, I went to the store and bought one and this seemed to do the trick. *crossing my fingers*

If you are certain it isn't a flea problem, have you considered his food? Sometimes a food allergy can cause hair loss. It would probably be a good idea to get a vet's diagnosis before continuing.

My jackchi has bald patches on his head and has lost all his hair on his belly and chest. I've treated him for fleas and he doesn't seem irritated by it so I don't know what it could be ?

She is a black lab/rotti mix. We've been off all steroids for about a month. She is itchy but no major hot spots. I've been thinking about this Raw Diet. I've heard both pros and cons but we're willing to give it a try to keep her off meds.

I've been dealing with my dogs severe allergies for a year now. Trying to keep her off steroids long enough for the allergy testing which is proving quite challenging as she suffers so much. Chronic ear infections, itchy skin w/ hot spots show up after about 5 days of no steroid. We've tried several different food, antihistimines, etc. It's a frustrating, helpless feeling. I'm hoping the testing will bring some hope but the dermatologist has warned me about getting my hopes up. In the mean time, I give fish oil (omega 3) and bath her once a week with oatmeal which helps a little. I've also been told to wipe her feet everytime she's outside (easier said than done) Good luck and I would love to see more comments from people who are experiencing this.

In my 20+ years, I had cared for about half a dozen dogs. These are our family pets and we take really good care of them.

But we have found out that when dogs eat fried fish, they get allergic. They would have hair loss and after that the skin would be very irritated and then scab.

One of our unfortunate dog died because of fish. We had the fish marinated and let it dry in the sun (sort of like making a meat jerky). Our dog started barking and when we got out to see what happened, he defended the fish from 2 cats. however, the fish fell to the ground and our dog immediately switched attention from the cats to the fish and ate it. The next day he died. I think its because of an allergic reaction since he wasn't injured. Never knew that fish could do that.
