Gosh, I really hate to see corn get such a bad rap. Yes, all types of animmals eat corn in the wild. So, whoever said they don't hasn't lived on a farm. After a field is cleared, that night an asortment of animals will be eating the corn left. Studies in pet nutrition rate corn as really the best for controling glucose levels,digestive balance and more. Studies of the Native tribe in the Southwest canyons are linking corn meal to cancer fighting antibodies. Corn rates higher than rice and other grains. I think more studies need to be done on rendered fat and better controls on manufactering. Most of thesse preium dog foods are manufactured by Candy and Cleaning Product Companies. READ YOUR LABEL FOR MANUFACTOR! Unless, your Vet has a Doctorate in pet nutrition you can count on him just feeding you the lit from the company that gives him kickbacks. Prescription diet killed my loving beagle as per vet recommedation and then claimed is wasn't her fault but Hills rep.

My German shepherd recently suffered from hot spots and as soon as I changed her food they started to disappear. So I can say first hand, that hot spots are a direct effect of food allergies.

Lots of people just assume a dog has fleas if it scratches. Good post pointing out the different reasons.

When our dog was a puppy, she would bite at the fur on her back and created a hot spot that lasted about 2 months. Apparently she had a wheat allergy and we needed to adjust her diet... Expensive!!

It is very helpful to see many causes all at the same time, as it allows a rule out method to be easily applied.

@friendship
For some dogs, this is true. It all depends on if your dog is allergic to it.
